Meet Marjorie Mathison Hance
Marjorie Mathison Hance is the author of the North Lakes Murder Mystery Series, including:
– Under the Ice (NEW!)
– Murder at Pelican Lake
– Cormorant in the Net
– The Man Three Cottages Down
Her novels are set in Minnesota’s northwestern lake country and draw inspiration from her many years spent on Pelican Lake. A former national sales manager for Honeywell, Marjorie turned to writing after finding herself alone at the lake following the death of her first husband, and she has since earned critical acclaim for her vivid sense of place and engaging mystery plots.
At the festival, Marjorie will:
– Share behind-the-scenes stories with interested visitors about how lake life inspired her series
– Discuss her writing process and the real north country locations that appear in her books
– Sell and sign copies of her novels
– Chat with readers about mystery, setting, and characters
A Community Celebration of Art and Books
While Marjorie is excited to connect with her readers, the festival is a larger community event featuring:
– Regional authors with books across genres
– Local artists with original paintings, prints, photography, and more
– Handcrafted goods from makers and artisans
– Food and beverage vendors on site
The festival transforms downtown Hackensack into a lively, walkable celebration of creativity, storytelling, and north woods culture—an ideal summer Saturday for browsing, meeting creators, and bringing home a one-of-a-kind piece of art or a new favorite book.
